Rally to Restore Sanity skewers pundits and gets massive attendance

The National Mall in Washington was thronged by "Rally to Restore Sanity" attendees. The rally, fully titled "The Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear," drew an estimated 200,000 individuals. The event was quite the spectacle, as guest speakers and musicians served as interludes between antics from the emcees. Pundits and commentators were thoroughly skewered, and also the event was aimed at bringing a little more civility to our national climate.

‘Rally to Restore Sanity’ started` using a benediction

A fake priest played by Don Novello on Saturday Night Live, or Father Guido Sarducci, started the “Rally to Restore Sanity” with a Benediction after Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert were introduced. The rally involved a variety of acts that had music with some. Steward and Colbert commented as usual. Both of them were wearing American Flag pullovers when Colbert started the whole thing in an Evil Kinevil suit. Musical guests included Kid Rock and Sheryl Crow, The Roots and Tony Bennett, but the big number had been a bit of a contrast. Stewart brought Yusuf Islam, formerly Cat Stevens, on stage to perform “Peace Train.”. Ozzy Osbourne had been then invited by Colbert to sing "Crazy Train" and "Love Train" had been sung by O'Jays at the end.

Press around it

Taking shots at some media had been a large portion of why the rally was done. Kareem Abdul Jabbar and R2D2 made appearance throughout the show with the musical numbers. Between those, they made fun of Glenn Beck and Keith Olbermann who were shown in clips. Politico accounts that Olbermann commented on Stewart on Twitter. He said Stewart had "jumped the shark" on there. Similar commentators were largely dismissive of the rally. More than 200,000 attended the Stephen Colbert and Stewart Rally.

Strange concluding

Pegg explained on Twitter he had nothing to do with the Simon Pegg movie "Hot Fuzz" being broadcast at the conclusion of the rally by Comedy Central all the sudden.
