Muslim holidays contain November 16 stoning of the Devil ritual

In examining the differences between a westerner and a Muslim, holidays paint some stark differences. Nov. 16-19 marks the Muslim holiday of "Eid al-Adha. A contrast becomes evident when comparing a commercialized holiday, Christmas, with the "stoning of the Devil," the ritual of Eid al-Adha.

The Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha

Soon the Muslim holiday season will start. Eid al-Adha will start it with then a move to the Islamic New Year on December 7 and on Dec sixteen could be Ashura. On Tues millions of Muslim pilgrims descended on the Mina Valley in Saudi Arabia to throw pebbles at a religious monument called the Jamarat Pillars. In his obedience to Allah, Abraham resisted the devil's temptation to try and convince him out of killing his only son Ishmael, which is what the act symbolizes. The stoning of the Devil legend has it that Abraham, egged on by the Archangel Gabriel, threw rocks at Satan, who gave up and skulked back to Hell.

Stoning of the devil in remembrance

Killing Ishmael is something Abraham's wife Hagar tried to stop him from doing. Ishmael probably felt the exact same. He didn't want to be sacrificed. There are three Jamarat Pillars that represent the devil in the Eid al-Adha practice. The devil trying to tempt Abraham into disobeying Allah is what the largest represents. The second represents Hagar. It is because the devil tempted her to try to stop him. The 3rd represents the devil tempting poor Ishmael to plead for his life rather than dutifully submitting to being murdered for the satisfaction of Allah.

Fatal Muslim holiday season

Lethal situations have been begun due to Muslim holiday season in the past. To get to the Jamarat Pillars, an immense crowd of Muslim pilgrims, which gets larger yearly, must cross the Jamarat Bridge. The stoning of the devil ritual has become almost extremely hard to control, and on several occasions hundreds of Muslim pilgrims have been suffocated or crushed. To try and prevent death from occurring, the Jamarat Bridge has been expanded to five levels by Saudi authorities. So that the devil-stoners could get by means of with higher volumes of people, the Jamarat Pillars were exchanged with huge walls.
