Craigslist has caught heat in recent years for permitting online ads for prostitution and "girlfriend experience" (GFE) to publish. Authorities have tried to crack down on this online sex trade, but as Bronx News reports, such efforts are like trying to get rid of crabgrass. This time, authorities have intervened in a prostitution ring advertised on Craigslist Albany. Ross Campbell, a 25-year-old former utility worker, has been caught for pimping young women in their late teens. The alleged pimp could serve as much as five decades in jail, based on the new York-based Bronx News legal blog. Craigslist Albany had crimes galore
According to Bronx District Attorney Robert Johnson, Queens resident Campbell’s business on Craigslist Albany included sex trafficking, kidnapping, rape and various other offenses involving two "young" victims. This is reportedly the first such online-related conviction in Bronx County and one of only a couple of made under New York’s Sex Trafficking statute that became law in 2007. Promoting prostitution had been the only thing that wasn't a Class B felony under Ross Campbell's Craigslist Albany crimes. This means up to 25 years in jail for each offense could be sentenced. There will probably be a combined term although it’s possible for a consecutive term to occur.

A 19 year old female with a 3 year old went to the Bronx thinking that, since she had a romantic relationship with Campbell, she'd be residing with them, court documents say. Campbell's cousin rented an apartment, Daniel Ebron, where she had been moved to and told her child would be harmed or killed so she had been then "forced to engage in prostitution". The woman worked as a prostitute for customers solicited via Craigslist Albany ads until she ultimately managed to get away with her son.
Two other victims, 18 and 19 years old, were kidnapped and raped too.
