Reading wife's email results in Leon Walker's felony accusation

A felony criminal offense accusation has been filed against Leon Walker. In order to check up on his wife, Leon Walker logged into her email. His defense, however, is that it wasn’t hacking, and it was to protect their child.

Calling Leon Walker out

Due to anti-hacking statutes, Walker was arrested and can be tried on February 7. There was a purpose for writing the laws. It was intended to keep government computers from being hacked and prevent identity theft. Walker may be in prison up to five years if convicted of hacking. The alleged hacking criminal offense occurred when Leon Walker logged into his wife’s Gmail account to try to confirm his suspicion that she was being unfaithful to him.

Walker’s defense

Leon Walker and his lawyers do not dispute that he logged into his wife’s e-mail account. His wife would leave pieces of paper all around the house. They would have her passwords on them. He also states that the laptop he used was purchased after they were married and was shared between the two of them. In addition, Walker states that his wife would leave her Gmail logged in on that shared computer on a regular basis.

Argument of it being ok for Leon Walker

Walker doesn’t have to argue that his wife had no “reasonable expectation of privacy.” There is another option for him to choose. Walker says that he checked his wife’s e-mail out of concern for her child’s safety. He was worried after she did not come home one night. This got him to check her e-mail for clues. One of his concerns was that she was spending time with her 1st husband. He was convicted of child abuse though. Walker was worried so he printed the e-mails. He then sent them to the father of the child who was Walker’s second husband. When questioned, the second husband revealed that the e-mails came from Walker.
