Secretary of State Hillary Clinton not only won’t run for president, however now she might leave government altogether, reports Columbia Broadcasting System News. Clinton will not run for president in 2012 because she’s seen the ravages of office first-hand. What will be the biggest letdown to many is that Hillary Clinton has said that her secretary of state position could be "my last public position".
Hillary Clinton had been rumored as next secretary of defense
Some wanted Hillary to become the next Secretary of Defense, since Robert Gates is retiring next year. Also, it had been interesting that Clinton was out of the country throughout the mid-term elections when the democrats lost the house to the republicans. That look unlikely though because Clinton announced that her current position of secretary of state is, "my last public position."
It is worth noting the recent WikiLeaks embarrassment played no role in Clinton's decision.
Can Hillary Clinton ever quite politics
Hilary intends to continue work with her husband, former president Bill Clinton and also the Clinton foundation after she retires. Her words are that she wants to "continue working to enhance lives for others." Clinton explained that advocacy work for women and children worldwide appeals to her. Clinton was a lawyer for the Children's Defense Fund, which helps abused and neglected children before she had been in politics, and has stated that she really loved her work. Many believe that she is going to go back to that type of work.
“I feel very lucky because of my parents, my education and the opportunities I’ve had," Clinton said.

Is Hillary Clinton turning down the secretary of defense position?
While Hillary Clinton has denied that she is interested in running for either president or vice president next election – reports indicate that she was notably out of the country during the midterm elections when Democrats lost the House – some experts believed that with Secretary of Defense Robert Gates’ retirement coming up next year, Clinton was a fine candidate. Yet even that rumor appears to have been squashed by her recent pronouncement that secretary of state is "my last public position."
It is worth noting that the recent WikiLeaks embarrassment played no role in Clinton's decision.
What’s next for Hillary Clinton
While government work sounds like it will be in Hillary Clinton’s rear-view mirror after her term as secretary of state ends, Clinton did say that she "would like to continue working to improve lives for others" on a global scale, as her husband, former U.S. President Bill Clinton, has done with his Clinton Foundation. Clinton explained that advocacy work for women and children worldwide appeals to her. Clinton stated that she loved her work before politics as an attorney for the Children's Defense Fund, which helps abused and neglected kids. Many believe that she is going to go back to that type of work.
“I feel very lucky because of my parents, my education and the opportunities I’ve had," Clinton said.
