NFL not as fascinating as rail job for Fitzhugh
The Georgian 24 year old Fitzhugh was offered what many can only dream of. He was offered a career as a safety for the New York Jets after Jim Leonhard was injured during the Monday Night Football game against the New England Patriots. The Jets got a no from Fitzhugh though. This is what the New Jersey Star Ledger reports. Fitzhugh had been trying to secure a regular job in the National Football League for the last two years. Instead, he decided that constant employment with benefits as a conductor with the Norfolk Southern railway business was preferable. He still lives at home with his parents. This is because his disabled father needs his help.
Would rather understand what the long run seems like
An undrafted free agent in 2009, Fitzhugh was employed by the Jets in May of 2009, waived in August, added to the practice squad in September, and signed by the Baltimore Ravens in December. He was cut by the Ravens after the playoffs, then signed by the Jets during summer training camp, only to be cut again. Believe or not, not every person within the NFL has an enormous income coming in, and constant joblessness while waiting to be picked up by a team can take its toll.
One thing better to do
Not everyone would love the NFL. Gerald Ford turned the National Football League down to go to Yale Law School and later became President of the United States. Myron Rolle postponed entering the NFL to pursue studies as a Rhodes Scholar, although he now is on the Tennessee Titans practice squad.
