Nissan Motors to develop new Smart car for United States market segments

A brand new design of SmartCar is being made for American release by a joint Smart-Nissan venture. Smart car sales have suffered for a number of years. One of the biggest consumer grievances was a lack of seating. The Intelligent business turned to Nissan Motors for help. The brand new design could be a five door hatchback. Automobile buyers are becoming more economy minded, and also the new Smart car could be available beginning in 2011.

Nissan SmartCar came

Subcompact SmartCars came years ago. This wasn’t much news. USA Today reports that the Smart ForTwo became popular when gas prices were about $4 a gallon. Within the first year within the United States of America, about 24,000 of the brand were sold. With terrible economic conditions, sales slowed a bunch. This was bad news. That made it hard for cars to sell. Now they are harder than ever to get sold. Nissan Motors and also the business are now working together. A five-door hatchback is the newest goal. The business that produces the Smart car, SmartUSA, is a subsidiary of Penske Automotive Group. The vehicles sold in the United States are manufactured by Daimler.

Decide to always make the consumer right

Part of the trigger of lagging sales was customers wanted a car with more seating. Nissan will build the brand new subcompact using the V platform. Automotive News accounts that three different vehicles made in North American plants could be the basis of the vehicle. The smallest car Nissan at the moment makes is the Versa, but the V platform could be smaller than the Versa, which will also switch to the brand new platform. The new Smart car model will be smaller than the subcompact Versa.

A Smart move

Part of the appeal of the Smart ForTwo is that the auto is very economical. It does not cost much to buy or to fill up. More individuals are buying compacts and subcompacts. The Ford Motors Fiesta and numerous other models are becoming best sellers. More corporations should be looking to the sector as it is selling well.
