Signs Of Economic Hope — Or Are They?

There were some voices of optimism about the economy this week. The reason? Only 539,000 jobs were lost in April and 10 of the nation’s largest banks need to raise only $75 billion in capital. That’s supposed to be encouraging? Well, the stock market liked it; the Standard and Poor’s 500 index was up about 6 percent for the week. Are these really signs that the economy could be turning around?
